Lyft now allowing you to split fares
Uber no longer holds an exclusive on fare splitting. Lyft is upping its artillery with an upgrade that allows riders to automatically share the amount owed to your friendly driver. It’s as easy as accessing the options during a ride and simply tapping on the “Split payment” option. Select up to 5 friends and the process is done after they accept.
The new service is not exactly free, though. In order to cover the cost of charging multiple cards, the company charges you 25 cents per added customer. It’s not a horrible price to pay for simplicity.
Opinion: I happen to use these services only when I am out having drinks. Surely, I will be happy to not have to deal with splitting fares. Math just doesn’t come easy after a few brews.
